| NUR 6511 - Advanced Health Assessment, Health Promotion, & Diagnostic Reasoning |

This course focuses on the theory and practice of health assessment and health promotion within the family framework across the life span. The role of the advanced practice nurse in assessing all aspects of the patient's health status for purposes of health promotion, health protection, and disease prevention within their scope of practice is explored. Concepts, theories, and research on human development and genetics, prevention of disease, early detection of risk facturs and anticipatory guidance are emphasized. Students develop advanced interviewing and physical assessment skills necessary to conduct comprehensive and episodic health histories of clients and families. Special attention is given to ethical consideration of health promotion and disease detection and prevention in culturally diverse, disadvantaged, underserved clients and families living within urban and rural communities. Special attention is given to spiritual and cultural concerns.
